About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. DSPs provide direct care, promote independence, and support individuals in achieving their personal goals in a safe and supportive environment. At Resources for Human Development (RHD) program, we are dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities to live fulfilling, independent lives. Our team provides compassionate, person-centered support tailored to each individual’s unique strengths and needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license with a minimum of 3 years driving experience and reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass background checks, including criminal history and driver’s record check
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required clearances, including child abuse clearance (if applicable)
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to lift, transfer, and support individuals as needed (up to 50 lbs)
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and assisting with mobility
  • Compassionate, patient, and reliable with a strong desire to help others
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • additional education in human services or related field preferred
  • Previous experience in direct support, caregiving, or human services preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks
  • Promote independence, self-advocacy, and personal choice in all aspects of daily life
  • Support individuals in developing life skills and participating in social, recreational, and community activities
  • Build respectful, positive relationships with individuals served
  • Accurately document services provided and track individual progress
  • Communicate effectively with team members, families, and external providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral or medical needs, including crisis situations when necessary
