About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities, empowering them to be as active in their lives as possible. This support includes, but is not limited to, assistance with household maintenance, meal preparation, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, and teeth brushing. DSPs may also assist individuals with medical appointments, banking, community integration, outings, medication administration, and following Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans, and medical guidelines. DSP workers receive paid New Employee Orientation, CPR/First Aid, PABC, Defensive Driving, and Medication Administration Program (MAP) training, as well as program and person-specific training at the individuals’ homes. DSPs must be able to safely evacuate individuals from the home in an emergency and maintain all required certifications, complying with Agency policies and DDS regulations.

Requirements

  • Commitment to assisting people with varying disabilities to participate fully in their community and in their own lives
  • Varied interests and personal connections in the local community
  • Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer or school history)
  • Ability to work as a creative, engaged, dedicated member of the team
  • 21+ with reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in fluent English
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the program and individuals supported
  • Willingness to work holidays, overnights, or double-shifts

  • Handling job related duties in compliance with Agency policies
  • Following all DDS regulations/policies
