About The Position

Housing Advocacy Vocational and Employment is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team in Gaithersburg, MD. This is a Monday–Friday, 8 am–4 pm position offering a consistent schedule where you can make a real difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities every single day. Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required
• Prior experience in direct support, caregiving, or human services preferred
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
• Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills
• Genuine passion for supporting individuals with disabilities

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and daily living support to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities
• Assist clients with personal hygiene, meal preparation, and daily routines
• Implement individualized support plans (ISPs) and document progress accurately
• Transport and accompany clients to community activities, appointments, and vocational programs
• Encourage skill-building, independence, and community integration
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, families, and care team members
• Respond to behavioral or medical situations following established protocols
