About The Position

PathPoint is seeking full-time Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to join their Life Skills Plus day program in Thousand Oaks, CA. This program offers skills training and support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As a DSP, you will lead in-person, community-based, and virtual classes covering subjects like art, music, cooking, and volunteering. The role encourages creativity and welcomes new curriculum ideas from staff. PathPoint is a nonprofit organization focused on helping individuals flourish by fostering hope, building life skills, providing access to support systems, and forming meaningful relationships across several California counties.

Requirements

  • Patience, compassion, and the ability to interact with individuals with disabilities, their family members, and others in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors.
  • Must have a valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and be eligible for coverage on PathPoint's auto insurance policy.
  • Culturally aware, acknowledges diverse employee backgrounds, possesses skills to collaborate across cultures, and avoids biased assumptions based on cultural differences.
  • High school diploma or GED required

Responsibilities

  • Teach individuals social/life skills to help them lead more independent lives, including communication skills, mobility, money management, housing, and public transportation.
  • Teach individuals vocational skills to help prepare them for entry-level employment.
  • Supervise individuals during hours of instruction and on community outings and volunteering.
  • Build friendly and professional rapport with individuals and act as a positive role model for work habits, communication skills, and social skills.
  • Prepare weekly schedules, monthly training projections, and written progress reports.
