At the Charles Lea Center in Spartanburg, SC, we’re looking for compassionate, energetic individuals to join our team as a Lead Direct Support Professionals—where every day is an opportunity to support people with disabilities in living full, independent lives. The Lead Direct Support Professional (Lead DSP) plays a key role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential setting. This position provides hands-on care while also serving as a shift leader, ensuring daily operations run smoothly and team members deliver high-quality, person-centered support.

Requirements

  • Minimum age: 18
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience preferred (DSP, CNA, PCA, RBT, Med Tech, Caregiver)
  • Minimum 1 year of Direct Support Professional experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and Social Security number
  • Basic computer and documentation skills
  • Ability to pass required background and reference checks

Nice To Haves

  • 2–4 years of relevant experience preferred (DSP, CNA, PCA, RBT, Med Tech, Caregiver)
  • Minimum 1 year of Direct Support Professional experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and support to individuals, including assistance with daily living skills, community engagement, and personal care as needed.
  • Serve as the shift lead by guiding and supporting DSP team members.
  • Ensure daily routines, documentation, and service plans are followed.
  • Model professional behavior and person-centered practices for staff.
  • Communicate effectively with Program Managers, nurses, coworkers, and families.
  • Assist with scheduling, training, and mentoring new DSPs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with DDSN and CLC policies.
  • Respond to emergencies and ensure the safety and well-being of individuals at all times.
  • Support individuals in achieving personal goals, promoting independence and dignity.
