About The Position

Burton Center is seeking a full-time Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join their team. This role is crucial in fulfilling the Burton Center's mission to develop and discover unlimited potential in adults with disabilities and special needs. DSPs promote individuals to have the best quality of life through coaching, training, community advocacy, verbal prompts, and hands-on support. This is a third shift position with hours on various weekdays from 11:45 pm to 7:45 am and every other weekend from 7:45 pm to 7:45 am, totaling 40 hours per week. The position is part of Burton Center's Community Training Home Program (CTH). As a DSP in a CTH, you will be responsible for creating the best quality of life for up to 4 adults with disabilities and special needs living in the home. This involves implementing effective training programs, encouraging independence and community engagement, and providing direct care with self-help skills and personal hygiene. The role includes assisting with toileting, bathing, medication administration, feeding, and other individualized care needs. You will also prepare light meals from a designated meal plan, follow behavioral support plans, and participate in outings and activities. A Chromebook will be provided for tracking objectives and completing progress reports using the Therap system. Comprehensive training will be provided, including how to drive Burton Center vehicles, operate wheelchair lifts, use therapeutic options, and obtain Basic Life Support and MedTech certifications.

Requirements

  • SC Driver's License
  • Ability to lift or maneuver up to 50lbs
  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to be adaptive, a team player, and advocate for others
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must complete a mandatory in-person orientation, MedTech, and all assigned online training prior to on-the-job training.

  • Provide Basic Life Support and MedTech certifications.
