About The Position

Progressive Directions, Inc. is seeking caring, compassionate, dependable, and understanding individuals to join their team as Direct Support Professionals. This role involves supporting individuals with Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities to live independently, promoting their health, safety, value, and community participation. The organization, established over forty years ago in Clarksville, TN, is a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to supporting persons with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities through innovative programs and transformative services. Their mission is to help individuals attain personal success by fostering pride, dignity, and independence. This position requires a criminal background check.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Direct Support Professional Level 1 Certification, required.
  • Valid Tennessee, Kentucky, or Alabama driver’s license (military exceptions available).
  • Ability to read and follow directions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check and clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Ability to attend and pass all required training courses.
  • TB test within the last 12 months (or willingness to get one upon hire).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the basic needs of the persons supported residing at the home are met.
  • Provide personal hygiene, self-care skills, money management, housekeeping, recreation, and promote community involvement.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the persons supported during waking and sleeping hours.
  • Provide assistance in bathing, dressing, toileting, and hygiene.
  • Assist in meal preparation and grocery shopping, offering choices.
  • Assist in household chores such as vacuuming, dishes, sweeping/mopping floors, laundry, and general housekeeping.
  • Assist persons supported in taking prescribed medications according to the agency's medication administration policy.
  • Assist persons supported in personal and self-care skills as indicated by their Individual Support Plan (ISP).
  • Review and implement the persons supported Individual Support Plan (ISP) for outcomes and implementation plans.
  • Assist persons supported with obtaining money for shopping and purchasing needed items.
  • Report all medical, behavioral, or other concerns to the residential manager (RM) and house staff.
  • Ensure each person's supported daily needs are met while away from home by preparing necessary items.
  • Assist persons supported in meaningfully choosing how to spend their day.
  • Present choices of places the persons supported would like to visit.
  • Request necessary funds or other needed items in advance for outings.
  • Be aware of upcoming community events and ensure persons supported have opportunities to attend.
  • Coordinate trips/visits with relatives or other important people in the person's supported life.
  • Assist in coordinating activities based on the person's supported interests.
  • Maintain communication between staff in the communication log.
  • Complete daily notes in the person's supported file.
  • Complete Behavior Data sheets as needed.
  • Complete Medication Administration Record (MAR).
  • Document all activities and outings.
  • Attend doctor appointments as necessary and document results.
  • Assume responsibility for the person's supported safety while in the community.
  • Deal effectively with stress and stressful situations.
  • Deal effectively and cooperatively with parents, co-workers, persons supported, and the general public.
  • Maintain familiarity with agency policies and procedures.
  • Attend all staff meetings as required by the RM.
  • Maintain a clear line of communication between residential and management staff.
  • Attend and participate in all Circle of Support meetings for the persons supported served.
