About The Position

The Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf (BRCCED) is a provincial leader in the Deaf community, dedicated to providing care and opportunities in a communication-rich environment to enhance the quality of life for those they serve. They are a motivated, collaborative team focused on improving the lives of individuals in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community through a person-centered approach. Reporting to the Program Manager and working within a multi-disciplinary team, this position supports group and individual skill-building activities. The Community Participation Support / Day program offers onsite, community, or virtual support to individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and primarily use American Sign Language (ASL). These individuals require a communication-rich setting and may present with complex behavioral, mental health, and developmental needs.

Requirements

  • DSW Diploma or related college degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a day program or residential setting with individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health needs, and/or dual diagnosis.
  • Knowledge and experience working within the Deaf community and proficiency in ASL.
  • Experience with appropriate advocacy skills for marginalized groups or the Deaf community.
  • Professionalism and experience working with team members and liaising with families, community service partners, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, leadership, creative problem-solving abilities with critical thinking skills, and the ability to adhere to policies and protocols.
  • Experience supporting nutritional needs and life skills development for individuals in service.
  • Familiarity with Developmental Services Ontario and the developmental services sector, including Quality Assurance Measures.
  • Excellent communication, literacy, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in computer literacy (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook), video conferencing (Zoom, MS Teams), and online Learning Management Systems (e-learning).
  • Knowledge and experience with report writing and data entry.
  • Current certifications in Quality Assurance Measures, Safe Management, Medication Administration, and WHMIS, and the ability to actively participate in all trainings.
  • Physical capacity and ability to work one-on-one with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Full-time employment status.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous ABA training.
  • Experience with the aging population.
  • Valid Ontario Full G Driver's License and clean driving record.
  • French language proficiency / LSQ.

Responsibilities

  • Plan lessons to meet client skill-building goals, facilitate group and one-on-one activities, track attendance, and write progress notes and other documentation for program and funder requirements.
  • Participate in Plan of Care meetings, service reviews, program planning, evaluation, supervision, and team meetings.
  • Ensure activities and daily Quality Assurance Measures (QAM) align with the agency's mission, vision, values, strategic direction, and policies to maintain the highest quality of care.
  • Maintain a supportive, safe, and predictable environment by adhering to schedules, routines, and communicating effectively with the team.
  • Implement daily programming activities consistent with Plan of Care goals, tracking and reporting on progress.
  • Provide support in areas such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and meal supervision.
  • Administer medications in accordance with the Organization's policies and procedures.
  • Promote an evidence-based, person-centered approach to care.
  • Communicate in American Sign Language and demonstrate respect for Deaf Culture.
  • Advocate on behalf of individuals and their specific needs/goals, and report any concerns to management.
  • Collaborate with the team and individual service teams, dedicating oneself to excellent service.
  • Engage in physical activities including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, and prolonged standing.
