About The Position

Direct Support Professional - Mars Hill 5-12 hrs/wk, schedule to be determined with employee input. Schedule to change with semester changes. More hours available with other clients in Asheville, including full time options with benefits. $16/hour Want to make a difference in someone’s life? Become a Direct Support Professional (DSP) with Skill Creations, Inc., a nonprofit agency helping people with disabilities live their best lives. The DSP works in the individual’s home as well as in a community setting, providing care according to their specific needs and goals. This person lives part time in a dorm, and part time in a family home. Job description: Provide part-time support to a college student at Mars Hill. His interests include theatre, history, and expanding his social circle on campus. His values include his Christian faith and his independence. Due to medical complexity, his health and safety require specific monitoring.

Requirements

High School, GED, or College Transcript.
Valid NC Driver’s license and acceptable Driving Record.
Personal vehicle for transporting client
Background Check.
Ability to remain on one’s feet most of the time, to lift 50 pounds, and to occasionally balance, bend, stoop, and kneel.
Prompt and regular attendance.
Includes working during inclement weather and some holidays, with holiday pay.
Completion of paid training in CPR/First Aid and Behavior Management.
Basic computer skills for e-mail, electronic training modules, and data recording.
Personal phone with internet access.
Ability to meet client-specific needs.

Responsibilities

Provide part-time support to a college student at Mars Hill.
Helping with homework, to include overseeing use of dictation software, making corrections for accuracy, and uploading documents to dictation software.
Providing support with fine motor and communication skills.
Preparing food, ensuring safety during mealtimes.
Assisting him in maintaining his living space.
Monitoring his health and safety.
