About The Position

The Arc of Ocean County is hiring compassionate and dependable Part-Time Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide direct care and meaningful support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in community residences throughout Ocean County. Whether you're helping someone prepare dinner, learn a new life skill, participate in community activities, or simply enjoy their day, you'll have the opportunity to make a lasting impact while building a rewarding career in human services. No previous DSP experience? No problem. We'll provide the paid training you need to succeed.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid New Jersey driver's license in good standing with no more than five (5) points.
  • Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and professionalism.
  • Ability to perform the physical responsibilities of the position, including assisting individuals with mobility and completing household tasks as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated employment stability preferred, including at least one (1) year with a previous employer.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with personal care, meal preparation, medication administration, housekeeping, laundry, and other daily routines.
  • Encourage individuals to build independence by developing practical life skills and making everyday choices.
  • Promote a clean, comfortable, and welcoming home environment.
  • Accompany individuals to recreational events, appointments, shopping trips, volunteer opportunities, and other community activities.
  • Foster social interaction and encourage meaningful participation in community life.
  • Safely transport individuals using agency vehicles when assigned.
  • Deliver individualized support based on each person's goals, abilities, and support needs.
  • Assist individuals with behavioral, medical, and emotional challenges while maintaining patience, professionalism, and respect.
  • Protect the dignity, privacy, and rights of every individual served.
  • Maintain accurate electronic documentation, including daily progress notes, medication records, and required program documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, families, healthcare professionals, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Follow agency policies and residential procedures to ensure quality services and regulatory compliance.
