About The Position

Skill Creations, Inc., a nonprofit agency helping people with disabilities reach their personal goals, is seeking an active, playful individual to provide support to a woman with autism. This position involves daytime hours and overnight shifts from 6 PM to 10 AM. The schedule and hours will be determined with input from the employee. The role is located at the client's apartment in South Asheville and includes community outings. The individual supported is friendly and playful, enjoying movies, bowling, mermaids, and karaoke. She values engaging relationships and fun, and maintains a highly active lifestyle with daily hiking, walking, Crossfit, and gym workouts. Due to personal care needs, including supervision during bathing, the family is seeking a female DSP. A good candidate will embrace an active lifestyle, possess a strong sense of humor and adventure, and have a fun, creative attitude with an active imagination. The ability to maintain boundaries and enforce guidelines is also important.

Requirements

  • High School, GED, or College Transcript from an accredited school.
  • Valid NC Driver's license and acceptable Driving Record.
  • Criminal Record Check.
  • Completion of paid training in CPR/First Aid and Behavior Management.
  • Basic computer skills for e-mail, electronic training modules, and data recording.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, and to occasionally balance, bend, stoop, and kneel.
  • Prompt and regular attendance.
  • Ability to meet client-specific needs.
  • Due to personal care needs, this family is seeking a female DSP.

Responsibilities

  • Prompting and assisting with her morning and evening routines.
  • Exercising alongside her to provide encouragement.
  • Cooking meals with her assistance.
  • Assisting her in maintaining her apartment.
  • Utilizing her incentive programs to provide motivation, ease difficult transitions, and reward behavior.
  • Accompanying her out in the community.
  • Monitoring her health and safety.
