About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) carries out individual training, behavior management, and therapy programs from a variety of therapeutic disciplines to ensure that each person served at the South Dakota Developmental Center (SDDC) will develop to their fullest potential and maintains a structured and healthy environment designed to enhance the well-being of persons served while providing continual guidance regarding life skills, academic skills, and work skills to ensure appropriate social interaction. Part-time positions with full benefits and compressed schedule are also available.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of techniques used in conducting teaching plans for people with developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of facility routine.
  • Knowledge of basic social skills.
  • Knowledge of principles of basic human behavior.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of basic health care.
  • Knowledge of protective health measures.
  • Knowledge of physical and emotional needs of people served.
  • Ability to be a positive role model.
  • Ability to make effective decisions in emergencies.
  • Ability to lead the people in assigned tasks.
  • Ability to provide academic guidance.
  • Ability to follow established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to carry out procedures of teaching or treatment plans with people served.
  • Ability to accurately observe and report individuals' behavior and other responses to treatment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff and persons served.
  • Ability to provide work direction to staff regarding methods to assist people with developmental disabilities as needed.
  • Ability to prepare routine reports.
  • Must apply online.

  • Must undergo an abuse and neglect screening.
  • Must complete a drug screening.
  • Must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Must complete an Employment Eligibility Verification, Form I-9.
