About The Position

Community Living Central York is a non-profit, charitable organization founded in 1954 that provides support to individuals with intellectual disabilities. The organization is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors comprising individuals receiving support, family members, and community members. In 2024, Community Living Central York received the Not-For-Profit of the Year award at the Central York Chamber of Commerce Business Awards, the Community Leadership Award, and the ODEN Disability Employment Service Award for Outstanding Employment Service Provider. The primary goal of this role is to support individuals with intellectual disabilities in achieving their personal goals and fostering relationships, skills, and roles that enable their active participation in community life.

Requirements

  • DSW or equivalent.
  • Ability to support behavioral needs and protocols.
  • Ability to support complex medical needs i.e. G-tube and tracheotomy care.
  • Previous experience supporting people who have mental health issues and dealing with high anxiety situations.
  • Solid understanding of the principals of CPI and experience with verbal de-escalation.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Current First Aid, CPR and Non-violent Crisis Intervention certificates.
  • Training in dispensing medications.
  • Valid G driver’s license, insurance and reliable vehicle.
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Screening (within 6 months).

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two years experience working with people who have an intellectual disability.
