About The Position

The Department for Persons with Disabilities (DPD) is seeking dedicated, caring, and compassionate individuals to work in their Group Homes as Direct Support Professionals/Residential Counselors. This role is crucial in assisting and supervising individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to meet their personal health, safety, and welfare needs. Responsibilities include assisting with personal care, participating in household tasks and life skills development, and administering or assisting with medication. Effective communication with supervisors, co-workers, and residents is essential. The role also involves driving residents to various appointments and activities using agency vehicles and requires daily documentation of services provided. Additionally, the position supports residents in engaging in community-based activities.

Requirements

  • Motivated to work as part of a team that acts in the best interest of our residents at all times.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid (non-provisional) driver's license.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of CPR/First Aid and our emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Successful completion/passing of criminal background/references/DMV check, fingerprinting, pre-employment physical and drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ID/DD population is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Help meet the personal health, safety, and welfare of the people living in the group home.
  • Assist and/or supervise individuals in personal care areas such as bathing and toileting.
  • Participate in and/or supervise cleaning, cooking, and life skills activities.
  • Administer and/or assist with medication administration.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and the individuals living in the homes.
  • Drive residents to/from day programs, outside/within their community using agency vehicles.
  • Provide daily documentation of services provided.
  • Assist with community-based activities.
