About The Position

Skill Creations, Inc., a nonprofit agency helping people with disabilities reach their personal goals, is seeking an active, playful individual to provide support to a woman with autism. This position involves daytime hours and overnight shifts from 6 PM to 10 AM. The schedule and hours will be determined with input from the employee. The role is located at the client's apartment in South Asheville and includes activities around town. The individual being supported is friendly and playful, enjoying movies, bowling, mermaids, and karaoke. She values engaging relationships and fun, and maintains a highly active lifestyle with daily hiking, walking, Crossfit, and gym workouts. Due to personal care needs, the family is seeking a female DSP who can match her active lifestyle.

Requirements

High School, GED, or College Transcript from an accredited school.
Valid NC Driver's license and acceptable Driving Record.
Criminal Record Check.
Completion of paid training in CPR/First Aid and Behavior Management.
Basic computer skills for e-mail, electronic training modules, and data recording.
Ability to lift 50 pounds, and to occasionally balance, bend, stoop, and kneel.
Prompt and regular attendance.
Ability to meet client-specific needs.
Female DSP required due to personal care needs.

Responsibilities

Prompting and assisting with morning and evening routines.
Exercising alongside the client to provide encouragement.
Cooking meals with the client's assistance.
Assisting the client in maintaining her apartment.
Utilizing incentive programs to provide motivation, ease difficult transitions, and reward behavior.
Monitoring the client's health and safety.
Working during inclement weather and some holidays.
