About The Position

This role involves supervising Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) at an assigned work site, ensuring the delivery of quality care and support to individuals. The supervisor is responsible for training, scheduling, performance evaluation, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements. This position also involves direct care responsibilities when necessary, including assisting individuals with daily living activities, medication administration, transportation, and participation in community and leisure activities. Maintaining detailed records of services and individual conditions is a key aspect of the role.

• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities

• Regular, predictable and reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Formally recognizes the accomplishments of others when they display character traits valued by the organization.
• Assists individuals to the degree necessary to change bed linens, wash and iron laundry, and clean the living area or home.
• Assists individuals to the degree necessary to plan, purchase, prepare and serve food for him/herself and other members of the household, utilizing standard nutritional guidelines and/or special prescribed diets.
• Assists in lifting individuals in to and out of bed, an automobile, or wheelchair, to lavatory, and up and down stairs if assistance is necessary.
• Assists individuals to dress, bathe, and groom self if assistance is necessary.
• Administers prescribed oral and/or topical medications under written direction of a physician.
• Accompanies individuals who are ambulatory as well as those who are not to participate in a wide variety of out of the home activities and act as a guide, companion and aide.
• Assists individuals to secure and attend volunteer as well as other community vocation activities in their community in order to prepare for competitive employment.
• Provides transportation to the person’s work, therapies or leisure activities using public transportation, agency leased vehicles or their own vehicle.
• Entertains the individual in their home by reading aloud, playing card or board games, and any other activities interesting to the individual.
• Participates with the individual in a wide variety of leisure activities including visits to the individual’s family or to family gatherings, swimming, bicycling, and going to movies, concerts, church/church activities, picnics and amusement parks.
• Performs a wide variety of miscellaneous duties as requested such as obtaining household supplies and running errands.
• Maintains detailed records of the services performed and of the apparent condition of the individual.
• Conducts in home DSP training, scheduling and coordinating staff inservices.
• Plans, assigns, and directs the work of DSPs at the work site [scheduling staff hours].
• Evaluates staff performance on a regular and scheduled basis.
• Supports and strengthens the corporate character program.
• Recognizes and rewards the demonstration of character by employees, people receiving supports and other members of the community.
• Corrects performance of employees that does not meet position expectations.
• Addresses complaints and resolves problems.
• Conducts monthly staff meetings and other meetings as they become necessary.
• Monitors all documentation, progress notes, medications, incident reports, emergency drills and procedures, telephone logs, staff communication logs, and flow charts to assure routine tasks have been completed.
• Completes time sheets and brings them to the office on the first business day following the end of each pay period.
• Keeps accounts for the petty cash and bringing all receipts to the office for review on scheduled days.
• Keeps strict accounting of the funds of the person receiving services when deemed necessary.
• Ensures that food, housekeeping supplies and medical supplies are ordered and received.
• Oversees menu selection and, if necessary, approves substitutions.
• Secures approval of a plan for any needed maintenance repairs.
• Acts as Health Care Coordinator and scheduling and attending all medical appointments.
• Acts as a liaison to all agencies, to the Case Manager and to all family members involved in services for the person.
