About The Position

The Department for Persons with Disabilities (DPD) is seeking dedicated, caring, and compassionate individuals to join their team as Direct Support Professionals - Program Assistants in their Group Homes. DPD is a large Catholic Charities Agency providing care for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role partners with the Program Director to ensure quality services and uphold agency philosophy in daily tasks. The Program Assistant will assist the Director and Associate Director in supervising and training residential counselors, while also demonstrating proficiency in all aspects of the residential counselor role.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School/GED diploma
  • Must have a valid (non-provisional) driver’s license in the State of New Jersey with no more than 5 points on the license.
  • Required to drive agency vehicles to transport service recipients on a regular basis.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn computer programs.
  • Must be motivated to work as part of a team that acts in the best interest of our residents at all times.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of CPR/First Aid and our emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Successful completion/passing of criminal background check, reference check, DMV check, fingerprinting, pre-employment physical, and drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience working with persons with developmental disabilities and/or a degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Program Director to provide quality services to residents.
  • Uphold agency philosophy in daily tasks.
  • Work with the Director and Associate Director in the supervision and training of residential counselors.
  • Demonstrate excellence in all tasks of the residential counselor position, including preparing menus, grocery lists, and food shopping.
  • Schedule activities for residents.
  • Ensure medications are adequately stocked and communicate effectively with the pharmacy.
  • Coordinate the completion of fire drills.
  • Assist with administrative tasks.
  • Participate in training new staff.
  • Share on-call responsibilities with the Director and Associate Director.
  • Monitor health issues and clothing needs of residents.
  • Ensure the home meets agency and governmental standards of operation.
  • Complete significant amounts of written documentation.
  • Cooperate with agency administration and/or Division of Developmental Disabilities and Dept. of Human Services staff in any inspection or investigation.
  • Participate in monthly Staff Meetings.
