About The Position

Southeastern Virginia Training Center (SEVTC) is seeking compassionate, patient, and dedicated individuals to join their team as Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). In this PRN, wage-based role, you will provide essential care and support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including those who exhibit maladaptive behaviors. SEVTC is an intermediate care facility operated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), supporting individuals in state-of-the-art homes with unique accommodations. The facility emphasizes a person-centered approach, fostering independence and ensuring individuals can realize their potential. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Active, valid driver's license
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Dependable, accountable, and reliable
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Ability to work with an integrated team

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and other disabilities
  • Prior experience working with medically fragile individuals
  • Prior experience as a Direct Support Professional, a Certified Nursing Assistant, or similar role
  • Demonstrated experience working with electronic medical records

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with daily living activities such as hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and communication.
  • Provide emotional and behavioral support to individuals with maladaptive behaviors.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans as developed by the interdisciplinary team.
  • Promote independence and self-determination in a safe and structured environment.
  • Collaborate with clinical, nursing, and support staff to deliver comprehensive care.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow established safety procedures.
  • Work in the event of an emergency or facility need as essential personnel.
  • Work different shifts and/or overtime as requested.
