About The Position

Seven Hills Rhode Island is seeking individuals passionate about working with people with disabilities and significant life challenges to help them achieve their fullest potential. As a Behavior Specialist Assistant, you will provide direct support to individuals with unique behavioral and/or mental health challenges, ensuring they live safe, healthy, and fulfilled lives. This role focuses on supporting skill development while respecting individual culture, talents, and contributions, and adhering to Individual and Behavior Support Plans. The primary goal is to create a comfortable, safe home environment that fosters strong connections with family, friends, and the community. A key responsibility includes monitoring and collecting data to assess the effectiveness of support plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Education or related field preferred
  • 4 years of experience in a related field can be substituted for education
  • Valid Driver’s License & Good Driving Record.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Physical demands: sitting, pushing, pulling, carrying, grasping, speaking, listening, stooping, crouching, bending, standing, twisting, crawling, walking, and climbing.
  • Requires a normal degree of flexibility; ability to walk, run or shuffle, kneel on one or two knees and then stand up; to utilize upper and lower body strength within weight restrictions; may be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds or more with assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall physical, psychological, and emotional health and safety of participants in residential homes.
  • Provides supports as outlined in the individual's support plan, which may include personal care, physical lifting, and therapeutic holds.
  • Assists with maintaining the individual's environment, including cleaning, laundry, shopping, cooking, and budgeting.
  • Supports the Behavior Specialist and Clinical Director in developing teaching procedures for implementing goals and objectives in the Individual Support Plan.
  • Assists the Behavior Specialist in analyzing collected data and developing graphic presentations to evaluate teaching program effectiveness.
  • Facilitates and monitors crisis intervention and prevention responses when necessary.
  • Encourages the development of new relationships and contacts by assisting individuals in being active in their communities and home life.
  • Follows clinical orders and ensures medications and treatments are administered according to proper medical procedures, when applicable.
