About The Position

This is a full-time 3rd shift position, operating in a Residential Care Facility (RCF) Setting. RCF settings provide services for people with mental illness and other disabilities, offering them the opportunity to live and receive services in a way that honors their abilities. Direct Support Professionals are crucial in empowering people to reach individual achievements across the spectrum of life. This role involves collaborating with the overall care team, including other Direct Support Professionals, Programmers, Supervisors, individuals-served, and their families, to ensure the best possible care. The position requires fulfilling an individual’s behavioral care plan by creatively strategizing the best ways for each individual to reach and exceed their goals, utilizing innovative and impactful solutions.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
TB testing in compliance with CDC guidelines and State recommendations.
May require lifting at times, up to 35 pounds. Lifting more than 35 pounds requires the use of a two person lift, mechanical lift, or assistive equipment.
May require prolonged sitting and working at a computer for up to eight hours.
May require frequent bending, stooping, and stretching.
May require prolonged standing for up to eight hours.
Must wear hearing and eye protection in required areas.
Must have ability to see objects/persons at a distance.
Must have ability to see close work such as typed or handwritten material.
Must have ability to hear conversations in a quiet and a noisy environment.
Must have ability to determine where a sound is coming from.
Must have ability to hear differences among bells, buzzers, beeps, horns, etc.
Must have ability to communicate through speech.
Must have ability to drive and transport for service provision as needed.
Must remain awake during working hours, if applicable.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with supervisors and programmers to develop individualized goals and provide direct support focused on teaching skills, promoting independence, and encouraging participation in community and recreational activities.
Implement approved behavioral strategies to support individuals with challenging behaviors while ensuring rights restrictions are only applied when determined by the interdisciplinary team and included in service plans.
Complete timely, detailed, and Iowa Code–compliant documentation in Setworks, ensuring all required service information, interventions, and individual responses are accurately recorded with proper formatting and attention to detail.
Provide respectful, least-restrictive support in home and community settings while ensuring safety, protecting personal property, encouraging choice, and advocating for individual independence and self-determination.
Maintain reliable attendance by following call-in procedures, securing coverage when needed, and working assigned shifts; follow agency policies, report concerns appropriately, maintain flexibility, and complete required trainings.
