About The Position

A Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Merakey provides person-centered support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role is focused on helping individuals achieve their personal goals, maintain their health, and participate actively in their communities.

Job Summary
The DSP acts as a mentor and advocate, supporting individuals in various settings such as residential homes or community programs. The primary objective is to foster independence and improve the quality of life for those served through consistent, compassionate care.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• A valid driver’s license is typically required for transporting individuals.
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
• Strong communication skills and a high level of patience and empathy.
• Physical ability to assist with transfers or lifting as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dressing, and meal preparation.
• Teaching and reinforcing life skills such as communication, socialization, and money management.
• Accompanying individuals to community outings, social events, and medical appointments.
• Administering medications as trained and monitoring the general health and safety of individuals.
• Maintaining accurate documentation of progress, behavioral shifts, and daily activities.
• Promoting self-advocacy and ensuring the rights of individuals are respected at all times.
