About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides one-on-one support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their homes and in the community. DSPs help individuals build independent living skills, achieve personal goals, and participate fully in their communities. This is a client specific role, supporting an individual and their family in Santee. The client requires an able-bodied individual who can lift 50+ pounds to support them with mobility in and around the home and community. The client requires 1:1 monitoring at all times, including while showering and using the bathroom. Staff must be comfortable with personal care. In the community, you will support the client at their fitness classes and personal training. The client and family are very sweet and need a staff who is reliable, trustworthy, and caring. This role has the ability to work to a full time position. This role is ideal for compassionate, reliable individuals who want meaningful work that makes a difference every day.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • 1+ Years of experience as a DSP, caregiver, behavioral aide, or in-home support provider
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to pass background clearance
  • Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance (driving is required)
  • Ability to use a smartphone or tablet for documentation
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a DSP, caregiver, behavioral aide, or in-home support provider
  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Bilingual a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centered support aligned with each individual’s Individual Program Plan (IPP)
  • Assist with independent living skills
  • Support community participation including social activities, appointments, recreation, and volunteering
  • Be able to assist the client with mobility in the home and in the community, including pushing a wheelchair in the community
  • Assist with personal care as authorized (hygiene, grooming, mobility support)
  • Follow behavior support and safety plans
  • Accurately complete daily documentation, goal tracking notes, and incident reports
  • Communicate professionally with supervisors, family, and team members
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold client rights at all times
  • Be able to transport the client and folding wheelchair
