The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will assist in ensuring that the house is maintained in compliance with expected standards for the safety and welfare of the residents. This role minimizes employee and resident accidents/injuries and unnecessary expenditures by reporting unsatisfactory conditions and promptly reporting safety and/or health hazards to management. The DSP will perform housekeeping tasks as necessary and participate in disaster and emergency drills. They will deliver high-quality resident care, including feeding, bathing, and grooming, while promoting self-care and independence. The DSP will monitor residents for signs of illness or dysfunction, report accidents and medical concerns, and assist nurses as needed. They will also conduct inventories of resident supplies and ensure replenishment. In terms of IDD Programming, the DSP will support the physical, social, and psychological well-being of residents, providing physical management, nutritional management, and behavioral services according to plans. They will implement activities to meet habilitation and support plan goals, advocate for goal changes when appropriate, and follow mealtime and physical management plans. The DSP will help develop activities that encourage resident interaction and may be required to provide physical intervention. They will accompany individuals on field trips, excursions, community integration, and medical appointments, and may transport individuals using an ASC van. Participation in resident-related meetings, behavior management, shift, and house meetings is expected. The DSP will also ensure required documentation is accurately completed in a timely manner, including progress reports, data sheets, log books, and incident reports. They will accurately document individual progress, daily care, and I/O sheets, record seizures, and document observations of individual behavior. Prompt reporting of unusual incidents and workplace accidents/injuries is required. The DSP must obtain required training to meet agency requirements and policies, participate in offered training, and obtain necessary re-certifications.
