About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for providing direct support, hands-on instruction, assistance, and positive direction to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) in a manner that ensures their health, safety, successful achievement of service objectives, and personal goals. Enrich and support the lives of our residents while maintaining a safe and healthy environment. Provide companionship and personalized care while encouraging independence and self-care. Assist with activities of daily living, including dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, and eating. Prepare meals and snacks. Perform light housekeeping and laundry duties. Provide mobility and transfer assistance, which may include using mechanical lift devices. Implement positive behavior supports and de-escalate challenging behaviors when needed. Other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be able to provide references
  • Able to attend two weeks of PAID in-house orientation and training
  • Have a passion to help others through person-centered care
  • People-oriented and have a team approach
  • Dependable, adaptable, and flexible
  • Good communication skills (reading, writing, and verbal)

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct support, hands-on instruction, assistance, and positive direction to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD)
  • Ensuring the health, safety, successful achievement of service objectives, and personal goals of individuals served
  • Enriching and supporting the lives of residents while maintaining a safe and healthy environment
  • Providing companionship and personalized care while encouraging independence and self-care
  • Assisting with activities of daily living, including dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, and eating
  • Preparing meals and snacks
  • Performing light housekeeping and laundry duties
  • Providing mobility and transfer assistance, which may include using mechanical lift devices
  • Implementing positive behavior supports and de-escalating challenging behaviors when needed
  • Documenting care, following support plans, and collaborating with team members
