This role focuses on assisting individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, upholding their personal rights, and providing emotional support. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) engages in respectful communication, encourages socialization, and facilitates community connections. Key responsibilities include the supervision, protection, and care of individuals, ensuring their health, wellness, and safety. The DSP will support individuals in various settings according to their individualized service and behavior support plans, utilizing core competencies and adhering to safeguards. Maintaining a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment, implementing infection control protocols, and assisting with personal care and daily living activities are also crucial. The role involves administering medication as prescribed, teaching skills, supporting advocacy, and facilitating communication. Meal preparation, transportation, and assisting with financial management are part of the duties. The DSP will develop an understanding of specialized clinical knowledge for specific needs, implement Behavior Support Plans, and collect/record data on behavior. Collaboration within a team, completing necessary trainings and documentation, and utilizing teaching skills are essential. Compliance with regulatory requirements, reporting maintenance concerns, and participating in team meetings are expected. The DSP will utilize approved training techniques for challenging behaviors and may provide coverage at other locations. Participation in treatment plan development and operating a YAI vehicle may be required.
