This role involves assisting individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, upholding their personal rights, and providing emotional support. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will support people to meet personal goals, engage in respectful communication, and encourage social connections within the community. Responsibilities include ensuring the overall supervision, protection, and care of individuals, maintaining program guidelines, and facilitating learning in fire safety. The DSP will also manage crisis situations, adhere to policies and procedures, and implement individualized service and behavior support plans. This includes providing personal care, assisting with daily living activities, administering medication as prescribed, teaching skills, supporting advocacy, and assisting with communication and dispute resolution. The role also involves planning and preparing meals, transporting individuals to appointments and activities, and assisting with purchases and financial management. A key aspect is developing an understanding of specialized clinical knowledge for specific needs, implementing Behavior Support Plans, and collecting/summarizing data on individual behavior. The DSP will serve as a team member, providing feedback, communicating programmatic needs, and maintaining a solution-oriented approach. Completing necessary trainings and certifications, reviewing communication logs, and maintaining electronic health records are also essential. The role requires utilizing foundational teaching skills, understanding behavior as communication, and complying with regulatory requirements like HIPAA. Reporting maintenance and safety concerns, consulting with leadership and clinical staff, and attending team meetings are expected. The DSP will utilize approved YAI and OPWDD training techniques for emergency interventions and may provide coverage at other locations. Participation in treatment plan development and operating a YAI vehicle for transportation may also be required.
