About The Position

Active Day has an available opportunity for a DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL /DRIVER to join our team. We’re looking for a compassionate, dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Driver to support individuals in a fun, engaging day program setting. As a DSP / Direct Support Professional with Active Day, you will lead by example, bring a positive attitude, provide thoughtful and caring support to adults with intellectual disabilities and developmental needs and focus on providing vocational, recreational, leisure and social skills, support and instruction with a focus on community integration at our Day Program.

Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent required
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
  • At least 18 years of age unless also driving which requires at least 21 years of age
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Caring, patient, and positive attitude
  • Ability to work well with a team
  • Employment is contingent upon the successful results of background check, and where applicable, additional state-specific regulatory requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience is a plus—but not required (we’ll train the right person!)

Responsibilities

  • Drive a set route, safely picking up members and transporting them to and from the program
  • Support members throughout the day by assisting with daily living activities and personal care as needed (e.g. arrival and departure, eating, ambulation, transferring, rest room assistance, etc.) and provide emotional support and encouragement
  • Plan and facilitate engaging daily activities, community outings, and skill-building opportunities
  • Actively assist and encourage members in recreation, leisure activities, and community inclusion.
  • Help create a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment
  • Collaborate as part of a team to ensure quality care and meaningful experiences
  • Participate in the planning, facilitation and documentation of individual behavior support plans.
  • May be required to intervene in crisis situations and unexpected behaviors in accordance with approved strategies and techniques.
  • Maintain program areas, supplies, and equipment ensuring all are safe, clean, replenished, and in good working order. Some locations may require the care and cleaning of animals and related environments.
  • Communicate in a positive, courteous and professional manner with members and their families, co-workers, referral agencies, and the community at large.
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-service educational programs as requested. Actively collaborate with cross-functional team, providing feedback and recommendations for enhancing the member experience and achieving the center’s overall goals and objectives.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures, safety and regulatory laws and standards.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as changed or assigned at any time.
