About The Position

This is a full-time position at Greenville House in Smithfield, RI, focusing on providing guidance and supervision to children and adolescents in a residential setting. The role involves assisting residents with daily life decisions, conduct, and discipline, while fostering an environment that promotes their physical and mental well-being. A key aspect of the job is the implementation and maintenance of Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) within the milieu setting.

Requirements

  • Reliable transportation.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proof of automobile insurance, registration, and inspection.
  • Driving record must meet requirements.
  • Reliable transportation must have a minimum of three seats in addition to the driver's seat.
  • Ability to travel to and from community locations and residential site locations, using walkways, stairs, and/or elevators.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to push or pull 10 lbs or more.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to be trained in and implement de-escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic issues.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and supervision of children/adolescents in a residential setting.
  • Assist each resident to make decisions about daily life, conduct and discipline within the boundaries of Agency policy and contractual agreements.
  • Provide an environment that promotes the physical and mental well-being of each child.
  • Implement and maintain Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) in the milieu setting.
  • Serve as a positive role model for residents.
  • Interact with residents to encourage their involvement in all phases of the residential treatment program.
  • Adhere to the TST model of treatment, including moment-by-moment assessment, emotional regulation skills building, and TST phase-based treatment.
  • Evaluate and assess client dysregulation in coordination with the Residential Manager, Clinical Coordinator, and client treatment team, and implement phase-based interventions and supports.
  • Enforce rules and policies in an explicit and consistent way.
  • Complete TST training and participate in consultation calls.
  • Maintain a positive environment for both residents and staff.
  • Perform daily household management tasks, including menu planning and preparation, housekeeping, grocery shopping, and managing sleeping arrangements.
  • Service and monitor recreational/educational activities within the shelter or in the community.
  • Oversee and monitor residents' completion of daily chores and use of the telephone.
  • Maintain appropriate program records, reports, logs, and data.
  • Establish and maintain positive professional relationships with other social service providers, community trades people, neighbors, and volunteers.
  • Transport residents to appointments and to obtain necessary documentation/information.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service training/workshops, and special meetings.
  • Provide emergency or crisis intervention techniques, such as passive physical restraint, when necessary.
  • Adhere to all requirements mandated by contractual agreements and state regulatory manuals.
  • Provide coverage/emergency support to other residential programs as required.
  • Drive company vehicles, including 15-passenger vans, to transport clients.
  • Distribute necessary medications in accordance with FSRI medication management policies and procedures.
  • Act as an advocate for the children/adolescents.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
