About The Position

Performs daily tasks, including checking vital signs and weighing residents, as set forth by the Lead RMA, Nursing Supervisor, DON, Unit Coordinator, Administrator or Designee. Contributes to the care planning process by providing specific information and observations of residents’ needs and preferences. Possesses the ability to follow complex written and oral directions and communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors. Provides resident supervision and/or assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, incontinent care, transferring, feeding, communication, and ambulation. Assists with meal service and clean up, and encourages and documents daily nutritional intake. Fully understands all aspects of residents’ rights, including the right to be free of restraints and abuse, and is responsible for promptly reporting any incidents or evidence of resident abuse or violation of residents’ rights. Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of residents, interacting in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring, homelike environment. Maintains confidentiality and protects personal belongings. Observes residents for changes in condition or behavior and promptly reports these changes. Provides care that maintains each resident’s skin integrity to prevent pressure ulcers, skin tears, and other damage. Participates in mandatory periodic training to enhance skills and maintain current trends in geriatric care, including resident-centered training, cognitive impairment training, and infection control training. Provides basic First Aid and CPR when necessary and maintains current certification. Schedules are flexible and may require mandatory overtime. Uniforms must be neat and clean, and closed-toe shoes are required. Must have basic computer skills and be able to perform duties in accordance with guidelines mandated by Social Services. Must possess mature judgment skills and be able to respond to emergency situations. Attendance is required during inclement weather. Follows all infection control and facility policies & procedures and maintains appropriate & respectful conduct.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED
  • Hold a current and valid license as a CNA from the Virginia Board of Nursing/Department of Health Professions, without restrictions, or a direct care aid certificate.
  • State Police background check that is free from barrier offenses
  • A current Tuberculosis screening on or within 7 days prior to the first day of employment and free from Tuberculosis
  • The ability to obtain CPR/FA training within 60 days of hire and maintain a current certification
  • The ability to meet physical requirements for position
  • The ability to pass a drug test
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Be of acceptable physical and mental health to carry out assigned duties
  • Employee must possess mature judgment skills and be able to respond to emergency situations
  • Attendance is required during inclement weather

  • Protects the personal belongings of each resident.
  • Promptly reports missing items according to established policy and participates in efforts to locate missing items.
