About The Position

Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center is hiring for a Full Time Emergency Department Registered Nurse! This is a Direct Care Registered Nurse II position in the Emergency Department, working a Full Time Night Shift from 7:00pm-7:00am. The role requires 2 8-hour call shifts per 6-week schedule. A sign-on bonus of up to $20,000 is available for qualified candidates. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care using the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. Professional performance standards encompass ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN must possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards for specific clinical areas. BSN or MSN is preferred. Specific certifications are required within certain timeframes, such as ACLS within 1 year for Critical Care/IMCU, ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year for Emergency Care, ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months for Oncology Care, NRP within 6 months for Women's Care - Perinatal departments, and PALS within 6 months for Inpatient Pediatrics. All Direct Care RNs are required to have BLS within 90 days of hire. The Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center’s Emergency Department is a 37-bed facility that handles a wide range of acute and emergent diagnoses. It is a Level III Trauma Center and a certified Primary Stroke Center, recognized with the Get With the Guidelines Gold Plus Award for Stroke Care. The department specializes in treating pediatric to geriatric patients with respiratory, cardiac, septic, and behavioral health conditions in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) License - Compact/Multi-State License OR Registered Nurse (RN) License - Single State – Virginia
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) within 90 days of hire
  • 2 years of Emergency Department nursing experience (preferred)

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN preferred.
  • Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire
  • Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire

  • Meet and maintain any requirements defined by specific specialty (e.g., ACLS, PALS, ENPC, ONS/ONCC, Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card, NRP, BLS).
