About The Position

Alta Mira is a non-profit organization that has supported individuals with developmental or intellectual delays or disabilities, and their families, since 1985. We provide services for all age groups. We support over 800 children annually through our Early Intervention Program and 1500 adults through our Family Support Services. Requirements

  • High School required.
  • Must be able to relate to individuals from a variety of social, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
  • Service-oriented and computer-literate.
  • Familiarity with developmental disabilities.
  • Collaborative working style.
  • Must be able to type.
  • Ability to get along with others
  • Ability to distinguish telephone rings and to hear and speak clearly over the telephone.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
  • Vision and hearing sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and their families preferred.
  • Associate's degree or higher preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure participant safety
  • Assist participants with personal hygiene needs
  • Encourage participants to engage in social activities and community outings
  • Teach Independent Living Skills (cooking, cleaning, hygiene, money management)
  • Transport participants to outings
  • Supervise participants
  • Attend Individual Specific Trainings for Respite Home participants
  • Complete all DDSD training by the given deadlines
  • Complete agency annual training by the given deadline
  • Review of new participant files prior to working with the participant
  • Complete Monthly paperwork (Attendance Sheets, Petty Cash, fire drills) to be submitted to the supervisor by the first day of the following month.
  • Accurate records of attendance sheets as participants arrive and depart.
  • Collect Petty Cash Receipt form and receipts for activities (only during the supervisor’s absence).
  • Complete Petty Cash Verification form (only during the supervisor’s absence).
  • Medication documentation
  • Submit Incident Reports within the given timeframe
  • Complete Monthly Activity Calendar, weekly menu, and grocery list
  • Complete Progress Notes for each participant at each visit
  • Assist the supervisor with the weekly menu for each participant
  • Maintain Mileage record – if needed
  • Collect and ensure accuracy of participant Physician’s Standing Order and Prescriptive Medication forms
  • Perform “Crossover” discussion with co-worker from previous shift
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally.
  • Consult with supervisor regarding any concerns regarding participants/families
  • Check voice messages prior to participant’s arrival and upon return from activities
  • Read Communication Log prior to participants’ arrival
  • Notify supervisor of any urgent/emergency situations
  • Notify supervisor of any changes in the staff schedule prior to the change
  • Notify supervisor of any house or van maintenance needs
  • Ensure space is available utilizing the Weekly Schedule Book
  • Assess the appropriate staff-to-participant ratio based on the needs of participants
  • Consult with supervisor regarding any special circumstances, including emergencies
  • Clean bathrooms
  • Sweep/vacuum/mop floors
  • Empty trash
  • Complete laundry
  • Clear kitchen table
  • Clean dishes, countertops, stovetop, and microwave
  • Dust surfaces
  • Perform basic maintenance of grounds
  • Clean van and fill gas tank
