About The Position

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Nursing Director to be accountable for the clinical, operational, and fiscal performance of all designated units. This position oversees the execution of short and long term strategies to support organizational goals pertinent to the Baylor Scott & White- Sunnyvale campus, establishes and ensures compliance with standards of clinical care, and maintains accountability for staffing, quality, safety, service and clinical excellence throughout these areas. Other responsibilities include assisting Clinical Managers with Evidence Based Leadership, supporting nursing professional practice, and responding to any patient or physician’s complaints in an administrative leadership role.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; baccalaureate degree, Masters preferred.
  • Current state licensed Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • 3 or more years of previous experience in all aspects of management experience in area of expertise.
  • AHA BLS is required, national certification in area of expertise preferred.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge.

  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formulation of the plan of care and maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Maintains performance improvement activities for department.
  • Provides education to staff on performance improvement. Ability to plan and organize orientation and inservice training for unit staff members, participates in guidance and educational program.
  • Responsible for the direction of the Education Department and nursing area staff. Supports and empowers staff to embrace the mission and value statement of the organization.
  • Demonstrates ability to direct educational programs covering the life span including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric population.
  • Develops and directs orientation programs, inservices and continuing education for all organization personnel.
  • Ensures personnel receive timely, complete and documented orientation and training. Works with directors to serve as an expert in diagnosis of educational problems, managing learning needs and developing work plans as appropriate.
  • Interacts professionally with the nursing staff, nurse managers and other department managers to determine specific educational needs and to coordinate educational programs to meet those needs.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with all departments of the organization. Coordinates the required inservices annually, i.e., safety, fire/emergency preparedness, infection control, basic cardiac life support.
  • Performs management activities per role delineation and in the absence of the Chief Nursing Officer.
  • Assists the Chief Nursing Officer in the development of a professional nursing staff. Incorporates Magnet principles into practice, mentors staff in use of evidence based practice and research as well as developing a research and clinical advancement program for nursing staff.
