Requirements

  • Food service experience necessary, preferably with seniors.
  • Willingness and ability to learn.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, stand and walk short distances throughout the day.
  • Ability to tolerate heat from the kitchen area.
  • Ability to provide Residents with a professional and high standard of service.
  • Ability to treat all Residents with maximum respect at all times and be cognizant of Residents’ physical and mental challenges.
  • Ability to provide an unusual level of patience and tact while dealing with Residents and family requests.
  • Familiar with WHMIS and safe food handling.

Responsibilities

  • Be present in the dining room and prepared to receive residents for meals at scheduled times.
  • Serve food to residents, observing special diet restrictions, resident preferences, and following departmental procedures.
  • Clear tables, load and safely operate the dishwasher, and complete manual ware washing as required.
  • Check daily dining room guest reservations to determine the number of guests and prepare chits for guest meals.
  • Advise the Cook on duty regarding guest meals.
  • Ensure walking aids are stored outside the dining room unless safely placed and not posing a tripping hazard.
  • Prepare tables according to facility standards.
  • Serve refreshments and assist with catered functions as assigned.
  • Advise the Dining Room Manager of any supplies to be ordered.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures.
  • Communicate through the department Communication Log.
  • Complete the daily Meal Monitor to track Resident food comments.
  • Complete tasks listed on the shift routine and cleaning schedules.
  • Be knowledgeable of and practice the facility’s fire and safety programs.
  • Follow up on missing residents with Reception.
