About The Position

This part-time role offers an opportunity to join a friendly, team-oriented dining service department. This individual will support daily operations, provide welcoming service, and help create a positive dining experience for guests. Teamwork, enthusiasm, and reliability are valued. Food service experience is preferred but not required – training is provided for those eager to learn and grow in a higher education setting. Pennsylvania College of Technology is hosting an Employment Open House and Job Fair on Wednesday, July 8 from 1:30 PM – 5:00 PM. The event will take place in the Dave Jane Gilmour Center (DJG). This event will focus on opportunities within Dining Services and General Services, with onsite interviews. We have both part-time and full-time positions available. Multiple scheduling options available, including day, evening, and weekend shifts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and carry out job duties by following both verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and complete tasks with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Food service experience is preferred but not required
  • Minimum of 1-year previous experience in food service, preferably in fast food or institutional environment, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of portion control serving or willingness to be trained.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
  • Familiarity with safety and sanitation procedures and the proper use and care of food service equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly, professional, and respectful service to all guests.
  • Share customer or dining plan questions or concerns with the appropriate supervisor for support.
  • Support other campus dining service locations, as needed, to meet operational needs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, to include proper sanitation of food service equipment.
  • Perform general housekeeping in the kitchen, service, and dining areas.
  • Wash dishes, pots, pans, etc. using dish machines and pot sinks.
  • Remove garbage, recycling, and compost from service and kitchen areas.
  • Assist with basic food preparation, keeping service lines stocked and fresh.
  • Prepare food items following prep lists and standardized recipes.
  • Properly label, date, rotate, and store foods using FIFO procedures.
  • Assist with stocking front-of-house areas, storage spaces, and convenience stores.
  • Prepare, cook, and serve food using assigned equipment, with training provided as needed.
  • Follow all food handling safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Complete opening and closing duties accurately for assigned workstations.
  • Comply with all safety and sanitation policies.
  • Complete all required training in a timely manner.
  • May be required to work snow closure days that fall on scheduled shifts.
  • Accurately operate a computerized POS system and assist customers with self-service kiosks, or ability to be trained.
