About The Position

This position is responsible for providing high-quality meal service, organizing, supervising, and training dining services employees, and maintaining a sanitary and infection-free environment within a senior living community. The role involves ensuring adherence to current federal and state regulations and company policies. Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma.
  • Ability to read, write, use mathematics and units of measurement.
  • Knowledge of menus, recipes, food purchasing, preparation, and storage.
  • Ability to supervise and manage.
  • Knowledge of community policies and procedures and job descriptions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to meet regulations of ADA, state, infection and control, health department, and OSHA.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in senior living preferred.
  • Previous experience with managing an Assisted Living community preferred.
  • Previous experience in the dietary department of a health care facility or restaurant preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • License/Certification: Dietician, ADA, Diet Technician, chef, and/or dietary manager - meeting current requirements established by the state regulatory agency.
  • Passion to work with seniors.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise food service operations and assist as needed.
  • Be present in dining rooms during full meal service.
  • Assist with and coordinate food service for special functions and corporate meetings.
  • Attend daily manager stand-up meetings.
  • Maintain high sanitation standards.
  • Oversee bistro areas, including food presentation, cleanliness, and supplies.
  • Ensure all necessary dining room supplies (e.g., tablecloths, napkins, silverware) are ordered.
  • Maintain beverage equipment in dining rooms and bistros.
  • Control labor costs.
  • Schedule dining service employees.
  • Visit residents to gather information on food preferences.
  • Maintain records such as meal census, diets served, and weekly staffing patterns.
  • Hire, provide orientation and training, evaluate, and supervise dietary department employees within budget.
  • Ensure wait staff are knowledgeable about daily specials and their preparation.
  • Review resident diet information and care plans, and discuss necessary changes with residents, families, nursing staff, and consultant dietitians.
  • Supervise cleaning procedures to ensure safe and sanitary conditions in the kitchen, dining room, and bistros.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the building.
  • Ensure hot food is served hot and cold food is served cold.
  • Instruct new residents on meal service times, coffee availability, etc.
  • Participate in safety meetings, including infection control and safety committee functions.
  • Cover shifts as needed due to staff shortages or call-ins.
  • Perform other duties as specified by the Executive Chef or Executive Director.
