About The Position

A Dining Room Supervisor in a senior living community manages front-of-house dining operations. They supervise service staff, ensure regulatory compliance, coordinate with kitchen teams, and deliver an exceptional, person-centered dining experience tailored to independent, assisted living, and memory care residents. This role combines hands-on food service, shift supervision, and compassionate resident interaction, ensuring that menus, dietary restrictions, and safety standards are flawlessly executed.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of food service experience, with at least 6-12 months in a supervisory or management role.
  • Knowledge of high standards of food service sanitation and safety.
  • Maintaining high standards of personal hygiene while working, including frequent hand washing and securing hair away from the face.
  • Interpersonal skills are necessary to establish effective relationships with department workers and with other departments.
  • Skill and ability to learn to operate kitchen equipment.
  • Must possess an active CPR/BLS Certification and always maintain certification during employment.
  • Current Food Handlers card issued by local Health Department.
  • Knowledgeable of dietary practices and procedures, as well as related laws, regulations and pertaining to hospital and ALF/IL/ALZ operations.
  • Friendly, attentive, and professional demeanor with residents and guests.

Responsibilities

  • Train dining room servers and hosts on proper etiquette, hospitality, and service standards.
  • Create work schedules, assign side-work (e.g., setting tables, vacuuming), and manage shift coverage.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, monitor grooming/uniform compliance, and address disciplinary issues when necessary.
  • Welcome new residents, assist with seating, and ensure the dining room atmosphere is warm and inviting.
  • Coordinate closely with healthcare and dietary teams to ensure meals adhere to prescribed diets, food allergies, and texture modifications (especially critical in memory care).
  • Track meal attendance and proactively alert Wellness/Concierge staff if a resident fails to show for a safety check.
  • Handle resident complaints tactfully and ensure their culinary preferences are met.
  • Plan daily table sections and service flow based on resident meal counts.
  • Supervise the pacing and execution of meal services and assist with tray delivery/room service for residents who eat in their apartments.
  • Monitor dining supplies (silverware, linens, condiments) and assist in putting away stock or light dishwashing as needed.
  • Ensure the dining room complies with state licensing, ADA, OSHA, and local health department regulations.
  • Supervise daily and weekly cleaning duties to maintain a spotless, hazard-free environment.
  • Ensure the dining room, service stations, and equipment strictly adhere to state health codes and community sanitation standards.
  • Monitor food temperatures and safe handling practices during service.
  • Manage cleaning schedules and side-work duties for the serving staff.
  • Dispose of food and waste in accordance with established policies.
  • Other duties assigned are appropriate to the position.
