Digital Systems Safety Engineer – Research & Advanced Engineering

Ford Motor CompanyDearborn, MI
$85,400 - $192,900

About The Position

The Digital Systems Safety Engineer within Ford's Research and Advanced Engineering (R&A) team will pioneer safety standards for the next generation of electrified and intelligent vehicles. This role involves designing fault-tolerant, highly dependable system architectures by bridging advanced research with real-world execution. The engineer will act as a guardian of innovation, collaborating with researchers, controls experts, and software architects to ensure advanced electrified vehicle platforms are safe by design. This includes pioneering next-generation safety paradigms by researching, developing, and integrating emerging dependability technologies, and defining industry applications of Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and SOTIF (ISO 21448) for complex systems. The role also involves shaping the digital thread using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and SysML to create safety-critical system models, and translating complex safety requirements and validation methods into engineering artifacts for production vehicles.

Requirements

  • Rigorous systems thinking.
  • Ability to solve complex, multi-dimensional engineering puzzles.
  • Passion for establishing a world-class safety culture.
  • Experience with Functional Safety (ISO 26262).
  • Experience with SOTIF (ISO 21448).
  • Proficiency in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Proficiency in SysML.

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, and integrate emerging dependability technologies.
  • Define industry applications of Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and SOTIF (ISO 21448) to complex, evolving systems.
