Digital Systems Engineer

Leidos•Huntsville, AL

About The Position

Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a Digital Systems Engineer to combine systems engineering, systems architecture, and technical project management across the engineering lifecycle. The role guides requirements definition, architecture working groups, and system integration, using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to support interoperability, risk management, and engineering solutions. The position contributes to defense systems and solutions for customers with critical mission needs.

Requirements

  • Active Top Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Master’s degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or a related STEM discipline and at least 2 years of experience; or a bachelor’s degree in engineering, general science, or physics and at least 4 years of core systems engineering and systems architecture experience.
  • Hands-on experience developing architectural system concepts, structural diagrams such as BDDs and IBDs, and model-based configurations in Cameo Systems Modeler or other No Magic tools.
  • Experience building and applying template scripts, such as Apache Velocity, for report automation and technical documentation generation within system modeling environments.
  • Experience leading or coordinating engineering tasks, with foundational technical project management capabilities and the ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent oral communication skills and experience delivering internal or external briefings, design reviews, or technical demonstrations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or a related STEM discipline with at least 2 years of experience.
  • Experience implementing baseline risk-management tracking methodologies or risk-mitigation structures within SysML models.
  • Proficiency in model troubleshooting, parsing script errors, and structural verification and validation rules.
  • Familiarity with open-architecture paradigms, Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA), or enterprise product-line system integration concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and expand the MBSE conceptual model space to capture stakeholder requirements and establish end-to-end systems architecture and requirement-to-verification traceability.
  • Formulate and lead multidisciplinary requirements and architecture working groups, aligning engineering development and technical project management milestones with expectations.
  • Develop, debug, and implement Apache Velocity/Velocity Template Language scripts in Cameo Systems Modeler for report automation, documentation compilation, and dynamic Interface Control Document generation.
  • Drive system integration by linking engineering toolsets and open-source data models across the product lifecycle and simulating digital integrated ecosystems.
  • Model system-architecture risks and establish standardized risk-tracking methodology.
  • Troubleshoot models, validate templates, and refine syntax to ensure high-fidelity reports and consistent data in model repositories.
  • Collaborate across matrixed organizations.
