About The Position
WKBN 27 First News in Youngstown, Ohio is looking for a full-time Digital Sports Host / Multimedia Journalist to join the area's most experienced sports team and the market's leading digital operation. This role emphasizes engaging video content and in-depth story-telling with online and television platforms, focusing on compelling stories from a passionate sports town. The ideal candidate will have an extensive sports vocabulary, a track record of studio hosting, and the ability to work efficiently, multitask, and troubleshoot to meet challenging deadlines. The position requires enterprising story ideas and maintaining high professional ethics and personal integrity. A video link to work samples is required with the application.
Requirements
- Strong on-camera presence, solid delivery, and clear enunciation.
- Excellent reporting, interviewing, and storytelling skills.
- Deep knowledge and understanding of the sports landscape.
- Understanding the importance and use of social media.
- Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and organizational skills.
- Working knowledge of newsroom computer systems and non-linear editing software.
- Experience shooting and editing video.
- Writing for broadcast and AP Style.
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
- Self-motivated, collaborative, and committed to high journalistic standards.
- Degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
Nice To Haves
- Prior sports reporting, hosting, producing, or multimedia journalism experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Produce, host, and help promote a daily local sports program on digital platforms.
- Deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
- Develop relationships and generate stories that appeal throughout the local sports community.
- Learn and execute the ‘digital first’ philosophy, where sports content is prioritized online.
- Create content that prioritizes storytelling over highlights and scores.
- Gather and verify information through interviews, observation, and research.
- Write and edit stories that meet station style and format standards.
- Shoot and edit videos to illustrate stories for all platforms including television and digital.
- Appear in television news segments, anchor weekend sports coverage, and report live from the field.
- Produce, write, and anchor sports segments for late local newscasts.
- Use social media to give updates, engage audiences, and extend the reach of content.
