About The Position

The Digital Producer/Reporter gathers, writes, reports, and copy edits news stories for digital platforms, apps, and digital extensions. The role also generates story ideas for digital and broadcast coverage and edits and posts multimedia content to digital platforms and social media. On-camera appearances on connected TV, television, and digital and social platforms are expected. The position may also shoot video and livestream press conferences or breaking news events as needed.

The shift includes nights and weekends, holiday work, and fill-in shifts covering the AM shift as assigned. The position requires working with newsroom colleagues and sources, responding to audience inquiries, and maintaining awareness of current events.

Requirements

• Strong journalism and writing skills, with an emphasis on AP style.
• Knowledge of the AP Stylebook.
• Ability to use social media outlets to engage viewers.
• Ability to shoot and edit video.
• Ability to work well under pressure and with limited supervision.
• Strong initiative and attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere and work well with coworkers, supervisors, and viewers/readers.
• Solid keyboarding skills.
• Comfort with and clear, accurate, conversational delivery on air and on digital live platforms.
• Ability to work with Google Docs, ARC CMS, ENPS, Grass Valley edit, or equivalent.
• College degree in Journalism or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Gather, write, report, and copy edit news stories for digital platforms, apps, and digital extensions.
• Generate story ideas for digital and broadcast coverage.
• Copy-edit digital news stories written by other newsroom reporters.
• Edit and post multimedia content to digital platforms and social media.
• Appear on camera as a reporter for connected TV, television, digital, and social media platforms as assigned.
• Shoot video and livestream press conferences or breaking news events as needed.
• Make phone calls and work with other reporters and newsmakers to generate content for digital platforms and broadcast.
• Create visuals and graphics to increase digital and social media engagement.
• Develop and maintain sources for online and on-air reporting.
• Stay vigilant about current events.
• Respond to viewer and reader inquiries by phone, email, and social media.
• Work assigned shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and fill-in AM shifts.
