About The Position

The Digital Processing Associate (Limited Term) supports the acquisition, processing, description, and preservation of born-digital collections in the University of Notre Dame Archives. Following best practices, the Digital Processing Specialist assists with the acquisition and transfer of born-digital materials, facilitates their arrangement and description, and collaborates with others in the University Archives to ensure born-digital collections are securely maintained and persistent, safeguarding long-term access to and authenticity of born-digital assets. Materials may include email, web content, and born-digital files extracted from legacy physical media.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills required
  • Familiarity with born-digital archival collections
  • Ability to work independently in the absence of direct supervision

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree in Archival science or allied discipline
  • Experience working with ArchivesSpace or similar archival content management system
  • Familiarity with records management principles and best practice
  • Experience collaborating on, refining, and/or documenting technical processes

Responsibilities

  • Process, arrange, and describe born-digital and hybrid archival collections, paying particular attention to best practices in digital preservation, and create DACS-compliant EAD finding aids.
  • Facilitate the appraisal of born-digital materials and assist University Archives faculty and staff in acquiring and transferring born-digital collections from a variety of current and legacy storage media and locations.
  • Work to ensure that the University Archives born-digital content is accessible in accordance with University and donor restrictions, federal law, and copyright regulations.
