About The Position

A full-time university staff position is available in Printing Services with a tentative beginning date of September 8th, 2026. The working title for this assignment is Printing Operator 1 with an official title of Operator 1. This is an expected-to-continue assignment which requires a six-month probationary period. The expected hourly hiring salary will be based on qualifications and experience. This position reports to the Manager of University Printing Services and operates high-volume digital copiers with front-end software, as well as other digital duplicating equipment. This position works in tandem with other operators and helps manage the workload for the Large Format Printer. This position assists with the scheduling of equipment maintenance and repair. This position maintains confidentiality measures for materials being produced. This position assists with managing the inventory of paper stock and supplies required for production. This position assists with training and supervision of student employees within the bindery and delivery operations. 50% A. Operation and maintenance of high-volume digital copiers Operate digital copiers both color and monochrome and front-end software to scan, revise, resize, screen photos, page numbering in print production. Impose and program jobs for accurate output to comply with customer specifications for paperweight, color, pagination, quantity and finishing needs Review and change Web print orders as needed to ensure accuracy of pricing before printing. Enter orders into the Printing web order entry system as needed when other staff are out. Evaluate and prepare workflow and best production route according to date, time and quantity needed and assign to proper equipment for completion. Coordinate web orders to interpret and ensure accurate printing of attached files and pricing. Prepare and run queued jobs for printing on high-speed digital copiers and check all orders for accuracy. Scan photos to sharpen image, halftone screens, crop, resize and insert into documents. Assist with coordinating the scheduling of periodic maintenance of high-volume copiers and schedule downtime needed for immediate repairs by service technicians for uninterrupted workflow. Assist with the purchasing of replacement high-speed digital copier supplies. Maintain strong security and confidentiality of faculty materials handled by University Printing Services. Operate and maintain other digital duplicating equipment. Monitor use of university seal and word mark by following the University Standards Manual. Monitor all print production pieces to ensure all current mailing regulations are met. 15% B. Responsible for the management and operation of Large Format Printer Oversight and independent decision making for operation the LF Printer. Assist with operation of LF Printer. Determine scheduling of orders to best serve the customer deadlines. Contact vendor for issues and schedule repairs to best meet the needs of the department. Meet with customers to decide what new production materials would satisfy their needs and increase Printing Services sales. Assist with purchasing supplies and all production materials for the LF printer. 15% C. Operation and maintenance of all bindery equipment Operate all types of bindery equipment. Complete bindery needed for print orders. Assist in training and evaluating student employees in the bindery area. Assist with scheduling maintenance and repairs of bindery equipment. 10% D. Purchase paper and supplies for all production needs in Printing Services Assist with Determining and maintaining inventory levels for paper and other supplies used in production and order from vendors following University Purchasing policy and procedures. Assist with Verifying shipments, process packing slips with order forms and stock paper and supplies. 5% E. Miscellaneous duties as assigned Serve as a technical resource for clients. Assist with as backup position for the Sustainable Printing Program. Assist with on campus deliveries in the absence of student workers. Assist with the completion of customer order forms when necessary.
