About The Position

Opterra Energy Services, LLC is seeking a Digital Operations Engineering Director to be responsible for the operation of metering, data acquisition, and telemetry systems that collect critical performance and health data from distributed renewable energy and energy efficiency project sites nationwide. This role involves leading the Digital Operations team to maintain high availability and quality of site telemetry data, mentoring team members on data networks and communication systems, and establishing standard operating procedures for instrumentation and telemetry components. The Director will also collaborate with the Customer Care Leadership Team on software tools, integrate various tools into a cohesive ecosystem, and stay abreast of emerging technologies. Additionally, the role includes leading the software development team, managing the software development lifecycle, and working with the Digital Engineering Director to standardize hardware and backhaul technology. Close collaboration with networking and Cybersecurity teams is essential to ensure network compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, or a closely related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a related engineering role.
  • Designing dataloggers, power plant controllers and programming Allen Bradley or Schneider Electric RTACs, Feeder protection Relays, Advanced Recloser Controllers, Grid protection systems, Radios, Dataloggers, Power plant controllers (PPC) using JavaScript, Continuous function chart(CFC), Structured text (ST), Grafana under Linux/Debian OS.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting solar inverters, PV trackers, Solar panels, operation and maintenance of solar power plants.
  • Designing SCADA and HMI systems.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the operation of metering, data acquisition, and telemetry systems that collect critical performance and health data from distributed renewable energy and energy efficiency project sites nationwide.
  • Resource and lead the Digital Operations team to maintain high availability and quality of site telemetry data in all operational databases, reporting tools, and analysis tools used by the Customer Care Team.
  • Mentor team members who are knowledgeable of data networks, cellular data communication, serial communications, data acquisition systems, and the capabilities of meters and other monitored devices to support field service personnel travel to distributed sites.
  • Establish standard operating procedures for interacting with field personnel using procurement, delivery, and commissioning of all instrumentation and telemetry components used for the installation and repair of company projects.
  • Work with the Customer Care Leadership Team and budget for and select software tools that support the business.
  • Integrate various tools to create an ecosystem of software that brings knowledge workers together and enables the maintaining the instrumentation and telemetry network and for the delivery of valuable services to customers.
  • Understand customer needs and how improvements to our tools can help our team meet those needs.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging technologies and evaluate for commercial viability.
  • Resources and leads the software development team and manage the software development lifecycle.
  • Develops standard operation procedures for the on-going operation of instrumentation and telemetry systems by the Digital Operations team.
  • Work with the Digital Engineering Director, select and standardize hardware for data collection and technology for backhaul.
  • Work closely with networking and Cybersecurity teams to ensure the operating network is compliant with company policies and rules as they evolve over time.
