About The Position

The Digital Media Specialist tells the story of the Diocese of Tucson and creates content using social media, video, photography, and digital platforms to share the Gospel while showcasing the life of the Diocese of Tucson in its parishes, schools, and ministries. This role combines evangelizing with the skill of digital content production, capturing authentic and relevant stories that inspire and engage, while inviting others into a deeper relationship with the Church and all that the Church holds to be true. The Employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, “…Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received.” (Eph. 4:1)

Requirements

  • A working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church; must also be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
  • Proficiency with professional DSLR and ENG cameras, photography equipment, and content creation software, including Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Lightroom), DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, Canva, or equivalent applications.
  • Experience with livestreaming platforms and equipment (OBS, YouTube Live, etc.)
  • Strong writing skills and an eye for compelling visual storytelling.
  • Comfortable working independently, managing multiple projects, and traveling to various diocesan locations.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings/weekends for Masses and events.
  • Excellent communications skills including written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and be well-organized; must be a team player.
  • Ability to travel and be available for evening and weekend work as necessary; have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • The ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
  • Professional bearing and clean and neat personal appearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Spanish highly desirable.
  • Professional experience in preparing graphics and illustrations for print or social media use.
  • Experience with digital video and photography and use of camera gear. Be prepared to show examples of photography.
  • Video and audio editing skills with video editing program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Give evidence of living Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of a personal faith journey; strive to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
  • Travel to parishes, schools, diocesan ministries and programs throughout the diocese to capture photos and video content that tell stories of faith, service, and community.
  • Produce short-form video content (reels, stories, multimedia packages) as well as longer narrative pieces for stories, campaigns, appeals, and special events.
  • Write relevant stories, captions, scripts, and accompanying copy that reflect the voice and mission of the Diocese of Tucson.
  • Identify and pursue story ideas that shine a light on the human impact of diocesan ministries (e.g. vocations, youth ministry).
  • Manage day-to-day content and posting across Diocesan social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Monitor engagement, respond to comments/messages appropriately, and grow the diocesan online community.
  • Track and report on analytics/performance, adjusting strategy based on what resonates.
  • Set up, operate, and manage livestreams for Masses, diocesan events, and special celebrations.
  • Coordinate video/audio equipment and troubleshoot technical issues during live broadcasts.
  • Edit and publish recorded event footage for on-demand viewing.
  • Work closely with the Communications Director, Digital Marketing & Web Manager, parish/school communications liaisons, and ministry leaders to gather stories and coordinate shoots.
  • Ensure all content aligns with diocesan messaging, branding, and Catholic teaching.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
