About The Position

The City of Chandler Communications and Public Affairs Department is seeking qualified individuals for a Part-Time, Temporary, Non-benefited Digital Media Journalist position. This role serves at the discretion of the department director and is scheduled for 19 hours per week. This position is part of the Video Division within the Communications and Public Affairs Department, focusing on connecting the community and the city through diverse experiences and voices. The division aims to create positive, informative, entertaining, and impactful content, staying competitive with evolving technologies. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in news reporting, script writing, on-air talent, videography, editing, photography, and podcast production, working closely with the team to produce engaging news packages and digital media content.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or currently pursuing a degree in journalism, mass communications, media studies or a related field
  • Six (6) months of experience with digital media production, digital media photography or social media content development
  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
  • Acceptable driving record as a condition of employment.
  • Fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
  • Awareness of the City of Chandler’s policies concerning the use of drugs and alcohol.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro)
  • Proficiency with professional video equipment (DSLR and mirrorless cameras)
  • Ability to source contacts and resources independently
  • Ability to break down complex information into clear and compelling stories.
  • Ability to shoot and edit content for multi-platform delivery
  • Ability to create basic graphics for videos and thumbnails
  • Comfortable working as on-air talent
  • Ability to work independently and take full ownership of a project from conception and completion.

Responsibilities

  • Produce engaging news packages and digital media content.
  • Showcase skills in multimedia journalism and mass communications.
  • Gain hands-on experience in news reporting, script writing, on-air talent, videography, editing, photography, and podcast production.
  • Work closely with the team to produce content that showcases skills and contributes to community awareness.
