About The Position

Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island is seeking a Digital Literacy Instructor to provide in-person and online Computer Literacy instruction. The role involves evaluating students’ progress, recording learning gains and technology assessment completions, and supporting technology programs within adult education classes. The instructor will design and implement digital literacy lessons for ESL learners, covering fundamental computer skills, email communication, online safety, and cybersecurity. Instruction will include commonly used software like Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, and incorporate the NorthStar Digital Literacy Curriculum. The position also supports learners in job applications, resume writing, and online job searches, using interactive teaching methods that integrate language development with digital skills. The instructor will offer individualized and group instruction, monitor student progress, assess learning outcomes, provide feedback, and collaborate with colleagues and community organizations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree required
  • Prior computer literacy teaching experience
  • Experience working with ELL or diverse populations
  • Experience using tools such as, but not limited to educational software, remote/online learning platforms, and other technology

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing digital literacy lessons tailored for ESL learners
  • Teaching fundamental computer skills such as typing, internet navigation, and file organization
  • Guiding students in email communication, online safety, and cybersecurity best practices
  • Providing hands-on instruction in commonly used software like Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
  • Incorporating the NorthStar Digital Literacy Curriculum into the syllabus and preparing and proctoring the test
  • Supporting learners in job applications, resume writing, and online job searches
  • Using interactive teaching methods that integrate language development with digital skills
  • Offering both individualized and group instruction to accommodate diverse proficiency levels
  • Monitoring student progress, assessing learning outcomes, and providing constructive feedback
  • Collaborating with colleagues and community organizations to enhance learning opportunities and ensure student success
