About The Position

The Digital Learning Specialist promotes the use of technologies to support student achievement in the K-12 classroom. This role provides leadership, professional development, and instructional support to all instructional and administrative staff. The specialist collaborates with teachers and other instructional staff to develop curriculum materials and specific lesson plans that integrate technology. They also collaborate with other Digital Learning Specialists to promote and share best practices, model the integration of technology and creation in all curriculum areas, and facilitate school participation in the district's digital learning initiative. Additionally, the specialist develops and conducts school and district professional development, collaborates with teachers to plan, teach, and provide feedback on lessons integrating technology and student creation, and works with the school library media coordinator to enhance learning through instructional resources. A plan for professional development is followed, with active seeking of growth opportunities. Best practices related to the district's digital learning initiative, based on research and state standards, are implemented. The specialist works with teachers in selecting and evaluating resources compatible with the initiative and adheres to and communicates copyright, digital citizenship, and other laws and guidelines. Leadership is provided in developing, implementing, and updating the School Improvement Plan aligned with the district's digital learning initiative, and in the ongoing evaluation of the initiative's effectiveness. The role serves as a liaison between the school and district digital learning staff.

Requirements

  • K-5 teacher certification required for Digital Learning Specialist Licensure
  • Must hold a current North Carolina Professional Educators license for his/her area of assignment.
  • Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina Professional Educators license in Elementary Education (K-6).

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to and communicates copyright and digital citizenship as well as other laws and guidelines pertaining to the distribution and ethical use of all resources.
  • Provides leadership and collaborates with the Digital Learning Team and School Improvement Team to develop, implement, and update the School Improvement Plan aligned with the district's digital learning initiative.
  • Leads in the ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the district's digital learning initiative.
  • Serves as liaison between the school and district digital learning staff.
