About The Position

NBCUniversal is seeking interns for its Fall 2026 program. This paid internship offers students the chance to contribute to significant projects and develop their potential within the media, entertainment, and technology industries. Interns will gain valuable experience through networking, learning, and development opportunities. The program includes a complimentary Peacock subscription, free admission to Universal Parks, and access to mental health resources. The internship requires a commitment of 20 hours per week and will be based at the NBC Bay Area station in San Jose, CA. The Local Integrated Media team works with an integrated digital news team, publishing content for the station's websites in English and Spanish, and managing social media channels. Interns will develop news writing skills, reporting abilities, and learn to work with various programs to deliver accurate news online quickly. The team collaborates with TV newscasts, adapting on-air scripts for digital platforms with engaging headlines.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program.
  • Recent graduates are not eligible.
  • Current class standing of Junior or above.
  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be available to work 20 hours per week during duration of internship.
  • Must be willing to work in San Jose, CA.
  • Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.
  • Must have an active Social Security number.
  • Strong interest in news, journalism, and/or media.
  • Strong writing, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in AP Style
  • Experience writing and reporting for school newspapers/websites
  • Above-average news judgment and what qualifies as a quality news story
  • Experience posting for a university publication’s branded social accounts and a working knowledge of social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  • Ability to multitask

Nice To Haves

  • Academic background in Broadcast Journalism, Journalism, English, Communications, Media Studies, Political Science, or other related fields preferred.
  • Experience working with a campus TV station, newspaper, or website.
  • Comfortable with shooting and editing on cellphone as well as desktop editing.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
  • Bilingual in written English and Spanish a plus
  • Experience with WordPress, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and/or Wildmoka a plus

Responsibilities

  • Making calls
  • Interviewing sources
  • Writing stories and publishing in a CMS (content management system)
  • Clipping reporter videos for the website with SEO-friendly and attention-grabbing headlines and descriptions
  • Crafting social posts for the stations’ branded accounts
  • Gathering UGC (user generated content) from social media to use on the website, on-air broadcast, or social accounts
