This is a sensitive government position. The selected candidate will assist in investigating criminal activity by performing digital forensic examinations of data stored on electronic devices. Responsibilities include documenting and reporting findings, maintaining knowledge of current technology and best practices for extracting digital data, and providing expert testimony in court regarding electronically stored information. The role also involves providing technical guidance and assistance to law enforcement officials. The position requires proficiency with computers, mostly sedentary work in an office setting, but also field assistance in various environments. Travel, sometimes overnight, is required for court appearances, training, and warrant assists. Operating a state vehicle is required, and the applicant must have a valid Georgia driver's license. An on-call rotation is also required. A three to four-month training period at GBI Headquarters is mandatory. Residency within a 25-mile radius of the assigned regional boundary is required for statewide assignments.
