About The Position

The Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) is seeking a Digital Forensic Analyst to lead digital forensic investigations. This role involves developing and validating forensic tools, methodologies, and hardware/software configurations. The analyst will conduct acquisitions, preservation, analysis, and reporting of electronic evidence from various devices and data sources. They will also serve as a technical advisor to investigative teams, assisting with search warrant affidavits, subpoenas, cloud data requests, and on-scene warrant execution. Building virtual environments or databases to support large-scale case data review and conducting interviews are also key responsibilities. The analyst will review case data from various sources to determine appropriate forensic strategies, prepare formal reports of findings, and provide testimony in legal proceedings. Additionally, they will assist with internal digital investigations by analyzing network logs, workstation/server data, access records, and telecom data.

Requirements

  • 24 months training or 24 months experience in computer forensic acquisition & analysis (e.g., recovery of deleted or corrupted files, password protected files, encrypted files, imaging & internet tracing).
  • 24 months training or 24 months experience conducting investigations of complaints, felonies & possible violations of laws & rules or agency/company polices & procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer science.
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques, laws & principles.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of public relations.
  • Knowledge of human relations.
  • Knowledge of workers’ compensation laws & principles.
  • Knowledge of BWC policies & procedures.
  • Knowledge of BWC Special Investigations Department policies & procedures.
  • Knowledge of project management.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware & software relating to completion of investigations (e.g., EnCase, X-ways, Magnet Axiom, FTK).
  • Knowledge of operations research techniques.
  • Knowledge of government structure & process relating to investigations of fraudulent activity.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement which involved conducting investigations of complaints, felonies & possible violations of laws & rules or agency/company policies & procedures.
  • Knowledge of criminal intelligence data analysis.
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques.
  • Knowledge of computer forensic acquisition & analysis.
  • Skill in use of a personal computer & peripheral equipment (e.g., printer, external hard disk).
  • Skill in use of related investigative software (i.e., EnCase, X-ways, Magnet Axiom, FTK).
  • Skill in conducting investigations of complaints, felonies & possible violations of laws & rules or agency/company policies & procedures.
  • Skill in use of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Access, Excel).
  • Skill in use of BWC software (e.g., Powersuite, FMS).
  • Skill in use of forensic tools (e.g., boot disk, write blocker, forensic recovery device).
  • Skill in use of surveillance equipment (e.g., digital camera, etc.).
  • Ability to deal with many variables & determine specific course of action related to investigative process.
  • Ability to interpret extensive variety of technical material in books, journals & manuals.
  • Ability to interview.
  • Ability to use proper research methods in gathering data.
  • Ability to gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical advisor to investigative teams by assisting with search warrant affidavits, subpoenas, cloud data requests, and on-scene warrant execution.
  • Build virtual environments or databases to support large-scale case data review.
  • Conduct interviews with involved parties.
  • Review case data from investigators, internal departments, prosecutors, and external agencies to determine appropriate forensic strategies.
  • Prepare formal reports of findings.
  • Provide testimony in criminal or administrative proceedings as required.
  • Assist with conducting internal digital investigations by analyzing network logs, workstation/server data, access records, and telecom data.
